Hello Xiaomi Fans!🌱👋
Xiaomi has joined the WBCSD-ERA Green Logistics Initiative, a programme launched by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) to encourage the wider adoption of lower-carbon transportation and more sustainable logistics practices.
Xiaomi joins a group of participating global companies that includes Apple, IKEA, Siemens, Panasonic, BYD and SF Express. The initiative aims to accelerate the implementation of greener transportation solutions across supply chains. As Xiaomi continues to serve global users with products spanning smartphones, electric vehicles and smart home devices, logistics remains an important part of its wider sustainability efforts.
Xiaomi's Green Logistics Progress
Xiaomi has outlined several measures it has implemented across different stages of its logistics operations.
◆ Long-distance transportation
Xiaomi is replacing some air freight shipments with sea or rail transportation, where practical, to reduce transportation-related emissions. According to the company, more than 2,400 tonnes of products underwent a transportation-mode change in 2025.
◆ Intercity transportation in Europe
The company has adopted a road partial-load transportation model to improve delivery efficiency for products shipped from warehouses in Belgium and Spain to other European destinations. Xiaomi reports that 1,330 tonnes of goods benefited from this approach in 2025.
◆ Last-mile deliveries
For shorter urban journeys in Europe, Xiaomi is promoting lower-carbon delivery methods, including electric bicycles. The company says 720 tonnes of parcels were transported through these methods in 2025.
◆ Recycled logistics packaging
Xiaomi also plans to expand its use of recycled logistics packaging. The company estimates that recycled packaging boxes will reach 5.8 million units in 2026, representing 9.07% of its total packaging material usage.
Transportation choices, delivery efficiency and packaging all contribute to the environmental footprint of global supply chains. Shifting suitable shipments from air freight to sea or rail, improving vehicle loading efficiency and introducing electric options for urban deliveries can help reduce emissions, although the actual savings depend on factors such as distance, cargo volume and the transportation method used. Reusable and recycled packaging can also reduce demand for new materials when implemented effectively.
Xiaomi says it will continue expanding its green logistics practices and working with partners to support more sustainable transportation.
Its participation in the WBCSD-ERA initiative places these efforts within a broader industry collaboration focused on scaling lower-carbon logistics solutions. The longer-term impact will depend on how widely these practices are adopted and how effectively their environmental benefits are measured across the supply chain.
