Dear Xiaomi Fans,
According to People's Daily, the "Polar" satellite, currently carrying out China's 16th Arctic Ocean expedition, has completed its quasi-commercial application test for the domestically developed satellite internet service on the Arctic route.
This voyage marked the first time that simultaneous network communication verification was completed in the Arctic, Antarctic, and Tibet, enabling multi-party video connections between the "Polar" satellite, Qinling Station, Lhasa Lake in Tibet, and the North China Sea Bureau, with clear and smooth voice and video.
The tests confirmed that China's domestic satellite internet can provide global low-latency, high-bandwidth communication services, and verified the system's ability to operate stably in various harsh environments such as extreme low temperatures, high altitudes, strong winds and sandstorms, and ice fog, thus opening up the "last blind spot" in global communication.
Relying on domestically developed satellite internet communication technology, this voyage has sent and received more than 300 documents, transmitted more than 100GB of data, and supported more than 40 video conferences.
The project successfully completed full-scenario communication tests, including voice calls, large file transfers, ship-to-shore video conferencing, domestically produced data transmission from scientific research equipment, and full online forecasting platform. It solved the long-standing problem of "information silos" in polar expeditions and verified the ability of domestically produced satellite internet to provide full-voyage communication support for scientific research vessels.
It is also understood that the expedition was launched by the "Polar" research vessel on July 3 in Dalian, Liaoning Province. The "Xuelong" icebreaker, "Xuelong 2" icebreaker, and "Tansuo 3" research vessel also set sail in the same batch.
Unlike the Xue Long and Xue Long 2 icebreakers, which returned to Shanghai on September 30, the Polar and Exploration 3 icebreakers will remain in the Arctic Ocean to carry out operations. According to previous official announcements, the two ships are expected to return to China in mid-October.
